And then I went to Munich for some networking with colleagues.
The main reason for the trip was to take in some IT-related comedy* at DSLAM Nightshift with my lovely translator colleagues Anja Neudert and Petra Hucke.
Then, quite by chance, I found out that my LinkedIn contact Montserrat Varela, also a translator, lives in Munich. A quick flurry of messages and we arranged to meet up in the afternoon. I do like a win–win! Montserrat took me on a short tour of the city and then we found a nice spot in the corner of the Englischer Garten for a bite to eat.
It was a great pleasure to meet her and – of course – we had a lot to talk about. In particular, Montserrat shared more about the process she went through to become a sworn translator for both Spanish and Catalan. I came away with more of a bounce in my step and some good ideas and inspiration for my own work. And that’s the wonderful thing about networking with colleagues, especially when I get to do it in person. It helps me get out of my own head and see things a different way.
