I’m still having fun thinking of idioms that involve parts of the body, and this time it’s all about ears! Perhaps a little less active than the nose, but ears give us lots of input about our surroundings and let us know how other people are feeling.
If you’ve missed any of the other posts about body-related phrases you can find them here.
Hi Jane,
I just landed here from BP21 because of the discussion on idioms and someone mentioned you (I’m not on instagram so I found you here)! I’m interested you listed ear worm in the ears idioms – my son came back from Germany with that one!

Hi Sarah,
Oh that’s cool – thanks for coming to find me!
Yes I originally thought ear worm was only a German thing that we in our family had adopted in English, but it recently came up in my (monolingual) British business group so I thought I’d include it. Urban Dictionary and Wikipedia list it too. It’s nice to see a German word (or concept) being adopted in English since so many come the other way.
Hope you enjoy the rest of BP21!
