This was a good fit. Most translators are booklovers, and you can also think of us as bridges between different cultures.<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/kerrygilchrist\/\">Kerry Gilchrist<\/a>\u00a0is a translator working from German and Dutch into English, specialising in sport, sustainability and fashion. We had a virtual coffee a few weeks ago, and she said she\u2019d be up for a trip to Manchester.<\/p><p><span style=\"background-color: var(--nv-site-bg); font-weight: var(--bodyfontweight); letter-spacing: var(--bodyletterspacing); text-transform: var(--bodytexttransform);\">Kerry suggested we visit <\/span><a style=\"background-color: var(--nv-site-bg); font-weight: var(--bodyfontweight); letter-spacing: var(--bodyletterspacing); text-transform: var(--bodytexttransform);\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/visit\/cheshire-greater-manchester\/castlefield-viaduct\">Castlefield Viaduct<\/a><span style=\"background-color: var(--nv-site-bg); font-weight: var(--bodyfontweight); letter-spacing: var(--bodyletterspacing); text-transform: var(--bodytexttransform);\">, a Victorian steel structure which the National Trust has turned into a beautiful garden in the sky. I loved the combination of urban grittiness, lush green and delicate flowers. Not to mention the views from up there.<\/span><\/p><p>Later, on our way to find some lunch, we passed a large building. I can\u2019t remember exactly what Kerry said, but the words \u201clibrary\u201d and \u201cHarry Potter\u201d were enough to whet my curiosity. It was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.manchester.ac.uk\/rylands\/\">John Rylands Research Institute and Library<\/a>, which is a fabulous place.
